What is NVC?
The Northwest Vipassana Center, also known as Dhamma Kuñja, is situated on 50 acres in rural western Washington. It was established in August 1991 to offer training in Vipassana meditation. Ten-day courses are offered every month for new and returning students. Three-day and one-day courses are given for returning students from time to time, as well as programs for children.

How many students attend each course?
The meditation hall has a capacity of 80 students. However, our residences can only accommodate up to 34 men and 34 women. A new female residence, which is currently under construction, will bring the number of beds for women to 46.

What are the accommodations like?
The men's residence building, completed in December 2008, consists of double rooms, each with an attached bath. Women are accommodated in dorms with up to 10 students in the largest dorm room. Accommodations are simple, but adequate and comfortable. The new female residence, which is currently under construction, will have double-occupancy and semi-private rooms with attached baths.

Center Development
In May 2001, the center adopted a master development plan for eventually expanding the center to accommodate 200 students. This plan will be phased in over the coming years as demand for courses grows and as funds become available. The first phase, completed in October 2002, included a new meditation hall, parking lot, roads, and other infrastructure. The first half of Phase II, a new men's residence, was completed in December 2008. Construction began in April 2009 on a new female residence, which will complete Phase II.
